“Thousands have lived without love, not one without water.”
— W. H. Auden
For many of us, clean water is something we rarely think about. We simply turn on a tap, fill a glass, or take a shower without giving it a second thought. Yet for millions of people around the world, clean water is not a basic convenience but a daily struggle.
Something that literally falls from the sky remains out of reach for entire communities. While social media often surrounds us with images of comfort and luxury, it is easy to forget that many families still walk for hours every day, risking their health and safety simply to collect water that is often unsafe to drink.
Recognising this reality, we—four Year 12 students, Safa K., Alexandru L., Alexandra Elena D., and Alex Z.—decided to make a meaningful difference. Rather than accepting the problem as too large to solve, we took action by creating this project, an initiative supporting communities across Africa.

After researching humanitarian organisations and communicating with potential partners, we established a partnership with a verified NGO in Uganda, Nile Humanitarian Development Agency. Through this collaboration, we have supported its safe water, hygiene, and health programme for female students and surrounding rural communities.
We raised nearly fifty thousand lei through school fundraising activities, outreach to businesses, meetings with potential donors, and support from the wider community. Our work required months of planning, presenting our ideas, maintaining communication with our partner organisation, and ensuring that the money we raised funded sustainable projects.
Through this partnership, we funded the construction of two wells in two different villages in Uganda. One of the 2 wells, situated in Kakira Village, Uganda is now the only source of safe water in its’ village. We also distributed 400 reusable sanitary pads, designed to last for up to two years, to 100 teenage students, helping them manage their menstrual health with greater dignity and consistency.

Together, our initiative has directly supported more than 3,000 people and indirectly benefited thousands more. Access to safe water can reduce waterborne disease, improve sanitation, support school attendance, and reduce the time families spend travelling to collect water. It also allows schools, households, and community facilities to operate in safer conditions.
However, our vision does not end here. We are currently raising funds to build a third well in Africa and hope to expand our work by providing food, sanitary products, hygiene supplies, and other essential resources.

“The work we are doing provides people with essential resources: water, sanitary products, food, and hope. Every donation, no matter how small, makes a difference. Through our work and collaboration, we can help transform the lives of thousands of people.”

We hope this initiative will continue to grow, with future generations of ISB students joining us in expanding its impact.
