Working at ISB

Working at ISB

Working at ISB means being part of a global community. As part of our team, you will be working alongside staff members from over 10 different countries. Our school is an exciting place to develop professionally in an international context and offers opportunities for teachers, as well as non-teaching specialists at a variety of stages in their career.

ISB is a non-profit school operating under Lumina Foundation. It does not have shareholders and all profits are reinvested to improve the school. We are accredited by the Council of International Schools (CIS) and the member of the Council of British International Schools (COBIS).

ISB has been present in Bucharest since 1996 and moved to a new, purpose-built location in 2008. Set in south Bucharest, the campus occupies 19 acres of field site and has attractive, well-equipped facilities including a big Sports Hall. Currently, ISB has a role of over 610 students aged 2 to 18. We have students from over 40 countries. English is the language of instruction.

Academic standards are high throughout the school in IGCSE and IB examinations. The pass rate and our overall performance is comparable to good independent schools in the UK. We are dedicated to education in a broad sense. The school year is packed with sporting and cultural activities and students enjoy a stimulating environment where internationalism is fostered.

The school has been authorised to be an IB World School to offer IB Diploma Programme starting from September 2017.

Teachers at ISB come from a wide variety of backgrounds. Some are experienced international school teachers, whilst others have joined us directly from the UK system. There are over 90 teachers. They all share a common belief in the benefits of international schooling and are committed to providing the best education possible for our students.

Experience

ISB recruits well qualified, experienced teachers with relevant National Curriculum, Cambridge IGCSE, A level and IB experience. Contributions to co-curricular programmes are essential. Outstanding teachers from other backgrounds will be considered if the applicant is willing to learn and work within the ISB system and ethos. Teachers who qualified outside the UK should have recently taught the UK national curriculum in the UK for at least 2 academic years.

Safeguarding

We are an equal opportunities employer committed to the on-going professional development of all our staff. We actively promote the wellbeing of all students and our staff must be familiar with, and uphold all, Safeguarding Policies and Child Protection Procedures within the school.

Continuous Professional Development (CPD)

The School recognizes the need for continued Professional development of the staff. Each year our teachers attend various courses that will assist them in their classroom practice.

““I have enjoyed my first term at ISB very much. It has been very pleasant getting to know all the different students with a variety of personalities, as well as the very friendly and helpful staff. I have also found it very exciting to visit Transylvania in the half term as well as seeing what Bucharest has to offer, particularly its great parks and history. In conclusion, there is plenty to see and do here and you will be sure of a warm welcome both at ISB and in Romania!...”
Mr. Ellison (2012-2014), UK
“I enjoy working at ISB. There are many wonderful teachers in the primary section and the administration are supportive and helpful. The class sizes are very small and the children are well behaved. For International staff the ISB wages are enough to live comfortably on – things are relatively inexpensive in Romania compared to the UK. Flights to the UK are regular and are also cheap, and it is therefore quite easy to pop back to the UK for holidays…”
Mrs. Ssengendo (2010-2014), UK
“I feel privileged to be a teacher and consider it a joy to work with the incredible students and staff that we have at International School of Bucharest. The students are great and tend to rate education highly so the classroom atmosphere is very positive. The staff are young, friendly and very committed. Bucharest is a rapidly developing city, an interesting mix of old and new with huge shopping centres springing up on various corners of town...”
